Khaleda reaches pinkcity jaipur


Jaipur.Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Khaleda Zia reached Jaipur, capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, on Wednesday afternoon.






Khaleda and members of her entourage will stay overnight at Rambagh Palace and will offer special prayer at the shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer Sharif on Thursday.




The high officials of the provincial government of Rajasthan received the BNP Chairperson and her touring party after her motorcade reached at the royal guesthouse around 3pm Bangladesh standard time.




Her Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan said the former Prime Minister will offer special prayers at the Ajmer Sharif on Thursday morning.




She will visit the historic Amber Fort set on a hill-top in Jaipur in the afternoon and attend a dinner to be hosted by Commerce Minister of Rajasthan Rajendra Prakhar in her honour at Rambagh Palace.




Khaleda is expected to return to New Delhi on Thursday night.




Earlier in the day, the BNP chief left Hotel Taj Palace at 11am BdSt for Jaipur by road under special security arrangements.




A nine-strong BNP delegation is accompanying Khaleda during the visit which includes Standing Committee Member Tariqul Islam, her Advisors Riaz Rahman, Sabih Uddin Ahmed, Vice-Chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury, former MPs Khaleda Rabbani, Mosaddek Ali Falu, Maruf Kamal, Private Secretary Saleh Ahmed and photographer Nuru Uddin Ahmed.




Khaleda kicked off her India tour on Sunday on invitation of the Indian government. With only a year to the parliamentary elections, the BNP considers the visit 'very significant' while India says it 'is part of their engagement with Bangladesh's democratic and multiparty polity'.




She met Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and National Security Advisor Shibshankar Menon on Tuesday. She had already met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and opposition leader Sushma Swaraj.




The former Prime Minister is also likely to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and ruling Congress President Sonia Gandhi before returning on Nov 3.

Khaleda last went to India as the Prime Minister in 2006. This is her first visit to India as the opposition leader.
