Sub inspector hit by vehicle while trying to help accident

JAIPUR. A sub-inspector of Aadarsh Nagar police station was seriously injured after being hit by a rashly driven vehicle in the wee hours of Monday in front of GPO. The incident took place when he had stopped to help another victim of accident lying on the road.

According to the police, sub inspector Raghunath (38) spotted a 54-year-old man, Pramod Sharma, who was profusely bleeding and lying on the road. He stopped to help the victim. However, while he was crossing the road he was hit by a two-wheeler. He immediately fell on the ground and sustained head injuries. Soonafter, some passersby informed the police control room and an ambulance and other help reached the victims.

Accident (south) police are investigating the case and said that since the sub-inspector is unconscious and undergoing treatment at the ICU of SMS hospital, his statements could not be recorded.

"We have asked for the CCTV footage of the area to know what exactly happened. The said sub-inspector was returning on a bike and after spotting another injured person, he stopped and became victim of another rashly driven vehicle," said a police officer.

Police have registered two FIRs against unknown drivers.
